SEVEN people died on ACT's roads during last year, down more than 40 per cent from 2012.
Traffic operations officer, Sergeant Rod Anderson said the improvement was an indication of people's changing attitudes to road safety.
"Any fatality on our roads is one too many, and as a community we should always aim to be fatality free," Sgt Anderson said on Thursday.
"However, this is a noticeable improvement on the 12 deaths that occurred on our roads in 2012."
Increased driver awareness and police patrols have both been touted as some of the factors driving down the toll.
Sgt Anderson said police would continue to be out in force during the holiday season detecting and removing drivers engaging in risky behaviour such as speeding, drink and drug driving, using mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts.
