THE Belimbing Festival ended on a positive note, with future plans to further expand its activities.
The festival saw 13 booths and eight food stalls participating in the festival organised by the Belimbing Village Consultative Council. Belimbing Village Consultative Council treasurer, Hashim Hj Abdul Rahim, on the sidelines of the final day of the festival yesterday, said the public’s response to the festival was encouraging.
The event attracts hundred of visitors to participate in several activities such as the cross-country race which saw participation of 168 runners in five categories and over 100 participants in their fishing festival.
Hashim said, “These events help promote and strengthen our economic projects. For example, in the festival, we highlighted our handicrafts made by our women bureau members,” he said.
The good public feedback also encouraged several restaurants to set up booth at the festival. “They heard of our festival and wanted to join. They helped to attract more visitors to the festival,” he added.
The festival’s final day was family oriented as residents and visitors took part in fun sports activities.
“This year, we invited residents from Kg Subok to be part of the festival as well.
“Kg Belimbing and Kg Subuk have close relationships and by expanding it to Kg Belimbing, we not only increase the profile of Kg Belimbing, but also the profile of our events and activities,” he said.
The festival was one of the consultative village council activities also aimed at promoting unity among the village residents.
Kg Belimbing is divided into seven zones, said Hashim.
Each zone is headed by a leader, who oversees the welfare of the residents and raises any issues to the head of Kg Belimbing, Yang Berhormat Hj Gapor @ Hj Md Daud Karim.
YB Hj Gapor is also one of the Legislative Council representatives for Brunei Muara District.
He said, the fact that people continue to come to the festival, not only from Kg Belimbing but also from surrounding villages, shows that we have achieved our objectives to improve our economic projects and promote unity amongst the community.
