EIGHT fewer people died on Queensland's roads in 2013 compared with 2012.
Police say 272 people died last year, compared to 280 the previous year.
But it was higher than both 2010 and 2011, in which 249 and 269 people died, respectively.
Meanwhile, officers arrested 78 drink drivers on New Year's Eve with the highest blood alcohol reading being more than six times the legal limit.
