BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
ABOUT 30 participants, mostly youths, are expected to participate in a 15km kayaking expedition along the Brunei River on New Year’s Day.
The National Youth Volunteer Body and non-profit organisation CARE Association are organising the “Kayak Riadah Sungai Brunei”.
The route will start and finish at Kampung Serdang after reaching Kg Pudak for a lunch break while passing by Pulau Cermin for a short sightseeing session.
The route is expected to take about six hours, and include a cleaningcampaign at the Kampung Pudak cemetery.
“Kayaking veterans, marine police and firefighters will be taking part in ensuring the safety of the participants,” said Zainuddin Abu Bakar, a member of the National Youth Volunteer Body to The Brunei Times.
“Due to the rainy season, the seniors and instructors will take the necessary precautions to avoid any incidents from occurring.
“But there will also be a safety briefing before we start the event,” he added.
According to the organisers, applications to join Kayak Riadah have since been closed.
